We've been making this wine since 2006, and it has yet to disappoint. From Unti in Dry Creek Valley, this syrah is masterfully grown by some of the best in the business. Our 2014 shares many of the characteristics of earlier years: dark cherry, blueberry, and bramble; a rich, coating mouthfeel; and a length that led one reviewer to say "it goes on endlessly like a syrah highway."
This vintage, while very young, is showing far better than previous years at this age. While it has the same basic structure as in prior years, this vintage has far more hay, strawberry, and oregano. It presents as a sweeter wine (though it has no residual sugar), and has a much stronger bass-note of anise and stone.
I'd hold it until winter, 2016, but it's very drinkable now with a bit of air. If you're looking for a wine of incredible texture and complexity, this is the one for you.
Pair it with a smoked duck salad, a fennel/salami pasta, or even steelhead trout. It won't disappoint.
